Purpose
To stabilize and revitalize the community by increasing homeownership, eliminating blight and supporting business development.
Strategies:
Increase home ownership by offering a variety of moderately priced and market-rate housing choices to a diverse population through:
- Rehabilitation of existing homes
- New construction
Adhere to energy efficient and environmentally conscientious building practices by:
- Building healthy living environments
- Employing high-performance energy-efficient standards
- Recycling building materials
- Demolishing hazardous properties
Work with local and state government to adopt polices that protect homeowners
Alleviate blight and abate nuisance properties by:
- Leveraging resources, and collaborating with City departments and local groups towards creation of new ordinances and enforcement of existing initiatives
Preserve the historic character of Northside by:
- Respecting the comprehensive zoning guide lines expressed in the Northside Land Use Plan
- Coordinating new structures to complement surrounding historic architecture
- Working with City departments and local organizations towards preservation and rehabilitation of historic buildings in the main business district
Support business development by:
- Working with City departments, developers and local organizations on revitalization and development plans for the main business district and business corridors
